'Community' to me, means a group of people who are interested in an idea and come together on a platform or medium to discuss their ideas and help one another.''

How did you start into community management? What was your career path across the years?

I have a technical background, I started out as a Front End Developer, then I worked as a Social Media manager before going into Cyber Security. Then I discovered my true passion which is Community Management. It’s not been a straight path but at the end, it all connected.

What have been the main challenges of your career?

The community industry is heavily dominated by the US, so it was a bit difficult navigating my path, especially when I couldn’t see anyone in Africa who I could look up to.

What has helped you develop yourself as a community professional?

My network; knowing a lot of people and seeing the content they put out. Reaching out to people and learning from them helped me learn more about the community industry.

What's your favourite community platform?

For analytics – let me be a shameless plug and put AhoyConnect. For platform – I like slack

What is “community” for you?

‘Community’ to me, means a group of people who are interested in an idea and come together on a platform or medium to discuss their ideas and help one another.

What's one single strategy that you may suggest to increase member engagement?

Make your community members to be community leaders. Give them the ability to be experts in topics. The way to do that is by tagging them in topics they’re related to.

What would you recommend to those just starting into community management?

I’ll recommend that they network with other community professionals, people they look up to.

Stay up to date with the community industry
